“A wise heart knows the right time and way.” Ecclesiastes 8:5

Proverbs and Ecclesiastes in the Bible talk a lot about knowledge and understanding and wisdom. There are things we need to know, but knowledge sometimes is not enough. A person can know a lot and still be a fool, according to the Bible. A fool is simply someone who values the wrong things.

Understanding helps a person know the how and the why of an issue. Wisdom, on the other hand, is something more. Wisdom is the skillful application of what we know at the right time and the right place. Wisdom puts the right value on things. It is knowing what to do and when to do it, what to say and when to say it.

In this season, I am praying for our church, that each of us will have a “wise heart” to practically know the right time…and the right way.
